Pixels are removed continuously.
4. Select the Sampling: Once button on the options bar. Make a second
swipe across the building. This time only the background pixels are
removed because the Background Eraser is set to sample only once
(where you start dragging).
5. Select the Sampling: Background Swatch button on the options bar.
Before using the Background Eraser, hold the Opt key and observe
that the cursor changes to the Eyedropper icon. Click the top of
the building to sample its color. Press X to exchange foreground
and background colors so that the color you just sampled is now in
the background. Make a third swipe across the building. Only the
roof pixels are removed because they match the background color.

6. Save your work as Background Eraser Experiments.tif .

The Magic Eraser works something like the Paint Bucket in reverse: The Magic
Eraser removes pixels in a bounded area. In the following steps you will remove
the dark-brown background color you added earlier with the Paint Bucket.

1. Open your version of Luxor Final.tif if it is not already open.
2. Press Shift+E to select the Magic Eraser tool. On the options bar, set
Tolerance at 30% and select Anti-Alias. Click once on the dark-brown
background. It disappearsā€”but so too do some of the darker pylon
roofs because they were a similar dark-brown color (see Figure 4.17).
