Unlike the color wheel you developed using gradients and the gradient strip in
the Color panel, the HUD hue wheel allows you to select varying levels of both
saturation and brightness while simultaneously being able to select analogous
and complementary colors. Therefore, I recommend using the HUD hue wheel
to select colors whenever you are painting.
Using Painting tools
Now that you have a handle on color, it's time to familiarize yourself with the
various instruments used for applying and removing pixels from the canvas.
You'll try your hand at sketching with a pencil, painting with a brush, pouring
paint from a bucket, and using a variety of erasers.

The Pencil tool creates aliased lines that are suitable for sketching rough ideas,
as one might do on a cocktail napkin (a favorite pastime of architects). In the
following steps you will practice sketching the ancient Egyptian temple of Luxor
by tracing an image made from a 3D model.
