6.6.2 THE SPSS PROCEDURE WE WILL USE
ThereareseveralproceduresinSPSSthroughwhichwecanperform
various kinds of ANOVAs. Our choice for a one-way between-subjects
design is the One-Way ANOVA procedure because it is specialized to
perform both the omnibus one-way analysis as well as most of the multiple
comparison procedures that we will use in Chapter 7. This is a terrific
procedure because, by being specialized to analyze one-way between-
subjects designs, it can provide to us more variations of the analysis than
any other SPSS procedure. Among its limitations are these: (a) it is unable
to be used for designs with more than one independent variable, and (b)
it cannot accommodate the use of covariates.
6.6.3 OPEN SPSS
If you intend to perform your own analysis as we describe the step-by-step
process, then you need to launch SPSS and open the data file corresponding
to this example (or the data file that you intend to analyze). The data file
must be open before you can specify any SPSS analysis.
6.6.4 OPENING THE MAIN ONE-WAY ANOVA DIALOGWINDOW
From the menu bar at the top of the screen, follow this navigation route:

Highlight group in the left panel and click it over to the Factor panel.
Then highlight satscore and click it over to the panel for Dependent List .
When you have done this, your window should look like that shown in
Figure 6.3.
Note the pushbuttons that we have circled at the right of the SPSS
window in Figure 6.3. When selected (clicked), these open subsidiary
dialog windows within the main procedure to deal with aspects of the
analysis that you can configure to your own specifications. We will work
