In-Depth Information
Plastic Wrap filter
Filters > Artistic > Plastic Wrap
The Plastic Wrap filter simulates the look
of wrapping the photograph in a sheet of
close-fitting plastic or cling film.
The filter contains three controls. The High-
light Strength controls the size, amount
and dominance of the highlight areas. The
Detail slider determines how broad the
highlight areas are and the Smoothness
option adjusts the sharpness of the edge
of the highlight.
Pointillize filter
Filter > Pixelate > Pointillize
The Pointillize filter, as one of the Pixelate
group of filters, recreates the picture in a
series of colored dots on a background the
color of the current background color. The
end result simulates the look of a pointil-
list painting.
The filter contains a single slider control,
Cell Size, that varies the size of the dots
used to create the effect.
Poster Edges filter
Filter > Artistic > Poster Edges
The Poster Edges filter, as one of the Artis-
tic group of filters, posterizes the colors in
a picture whilst surrounding the edges with
a dark border. The filter also adds some
simple stippled shading to the picture.
The filter contains three controls.
The Edge Thickness setting adjusts the
weight of the line and the heaviness of the
shading.
The Edge Intensity slider controls the dark-
ness of the border and shading, and the
Posterization setting alters the number of
colors used in the final result.
Posterize filter
Filter > Adjustments > Posterize
The Posterize filter, as one of the Adjust-
ments group of filters, reduces the total
number of colors in an image by letting
you set the number of brightness levels per
channel.
A setting of 3 will produce three levels of
tone for each of the Red, Green and Blue
channels, giving a nine-color result.
Reticulation filter
Filter > Sketch > Reticulation
The Reticulation filter simulates the look
of film that has been reticulated. This tra-
ditional ef fec t is created by immersing film
in hot and then cold baths during process-
ing.
The dialog contains three controls.
The Density slider determines the overall
darkness of the effect. The Foreground
Level control is used to adjust how the
texture is applied to shadow areas and the
Background Level slider performs
the same task but for the lighter tones in
the picture.
As the filter uses the current foreground
and background colors in the creation of
the effect, altering these hues can change
the end results radically.
Rough Pastels filter
Filter > Artistic > Rough Pastels
The Rough Pastels filter recreates the pho-
to so that it looks like it has been drawn
with colored pastels on a roughly textured
paper.
The filter dialog contains several controls
that adjust the look and feel of the effect.
The Stroke slider determine how strong the
pastel stroke ef fec t will be. High values cre -
ate a coarse result. Low settings retain more
of the original detail.
The controls in the Texture section vary the
strength and type of texture that is added
to the picture. Increasing the values used
for both Scaling and Relief sliders will cre-
ate a more textured result.
The Light option controls the direction of
the light used to create the highlight and
shadow areas in the texture.
