In-Depth Information
These are not the only feature changes in this release of the program. As well as adding a
bunch of new tools and features and revamping some of the old favorites, the Elements' team
has been pretty ruthless in removing functions that are no longer needed or are superseded.
For a full list of those features and tools no longer present in Elements go to the Appendices at
the end of this topic.
The Organizer workspace
One of the core strengths of Photoshop Elements is its image management tools. The Organizer
is the center for these tools. Not only will you find a sophisticated file browsing workspace but
you will also have access to a huge range of search, tag, sort and display options and powerful
backup and album features.
Once the picture files have been imported (Organizer: File > Get Photos and Videos) into
Elements they can be viewed as groups of photos in different ways such as by date taken, their
associated tags and even their folder location. Keyword tags can be added to any image. You
can even create your own tags (keywords). You can also form subsets of pictures based around
an Album categories and headings. Both these features make finding your favorite pictures
much easier.
Organizer files can be displayed in differ-
ent ways via four View modes selectable
at the top of the workspace.
In Photoshop Elements 11 we now have four distinct ways of displaying groups of our images.
These are called Views and the options are Media, People, Places and Events.
Media displays the files you have in your Organizer. You can sort or filter these files according to
their type (photos, videos, projects etc.), albums, import folders or using settings like star ratings.
Events replaces Date View and it is here that images are grouped and displayed based on the
date they were taken.
Places is like Map view from previous versions and takes a different approach, displaying
photos based on where they were taken rather than when .
People builds on the face recognition technology found in last few revisions of the program to
create groups of images that feature the same people.
Different views can be selected by clicking the View buttons at the top of the workspace.
Ratings, Albums, and Tags as well as the People, Places and Events view modes are used to
filter or narrow down the number of files being displayed to redisplay the your whole collection
you need to select the Media view button and then click the All Media button at the top left of
the workspace.
