When enhancing your Raw files with Fix panel options in the Organizer workspace the file conversion
process is handled automatically for you. Here Auto Smart Fix is applied to a Sony Raw file (.ARW).The user is
then asked to choose which conversion format to work with (1) and then the enhanced and converted
picture is saved as a new file (2) in a Version Set with the original Raw photo (3). Selecting the 'Always use
this format...' option (4) will instruct Elements to convert all files to this format and will remove the Select
Output Format dialog from the process.

Step-by-step

1 2 VERSION SETS

This feature stores the
edited version of pic-
tures together with the
original photo in a spe-
cial photo stack called
a Version Set.
All photos enhanced in
the Organizer space are
automatically included
in a Version Set. Those
images saved in the
Quick Edit and Full Edit
spaces with the Save As
command can also be
added to a Version Set
by making sure that the
Save with Original op-
tion is ticked.

Start by selecting a Raw file in the Organizer workspace.
Next, click the Instant Fix button located on the bottom
right of the screen. You will now see a range of
enhancement entries. For more details on these
options go to Chapter 4. Here I selected the Smart Fix
entry.

Next, Elements will display a new window - Select
Output Format for Edited file. Here you can choose
the file type that will be used to save the converted
Raw file. In this example I have chosen the Photoshop
File as it of fers the best balance between image qualit y
and enhancement features. Click OK to continue.

Elements will now display a Fixing photo window
complete with a progress bar indicating how much of
the conversion and auto enhancement tasks have been
completed. If you applied the Fix option to more than
one photo in the Organizer then this window will also
display a tally of the completed images.

Depending on the size and resolution and number of
the Raw files that you are working with, the fixing
process can take a little while. Once completed the
converted, and now enhanced, file is saved with the
original Raw file in an Elements' Version Set. For more
