Construction of Distance Education System
Based on Online Game Operation Mode

Abstract. Modern distance education is not simple supplement to traditional
education mode, but a new exploration and innovation. Popular online game
operation modes were analyzed and the design idea of virtual world online
game was introduced to distance education to construct more attractive educa-
tion system. General process and main development tool were also described.
System architecture to construct online game distance education was analyzed
and designed according to modular principle for server and client. A general
implementation program for distance education software design based on online
game engine was given finally.

1 Introduction
Modern distance education is product of traditional education combing with tech-
nologies of computers and network, which is not merely supplement to traditional
education, but a new exploration and innovation. Game, especially online game is
very attractive to players for its special interactive, participatory and social. As to part
of school-age players, a negative social evaluation emerged for excessive indulgence
into online games [1]. As to education distance, students are in an isolated Internet
client far away from campus environment. Autonomous learning can be greatly im-
proved in that we can study at any time and any place, which also have some prob-
lems [2]. Without monitoring manners of naming and examination in campus and
communication channel among students, it is difficult for learners to put lasting pas-
sion to complete an online course [3, 4]. Referring to design idea of online games,
design and deployment pattern of distance education software were explored and
overall architecture to construction online game distance education system was given.
The paper is organized as follows. Section 2 introduces basic mode and common
editing tools of online games. Section 3 gives overall architecture of distance educa-
tion system based on online game operation mode and section concludes our work.
