In-Depth Information
with sufficient available resources, you allow that workload to perform well, while
also freeing up resources on the original system.
For both types of VEs, shared storage is required. In the case of Containers, the
list of supported shared storage includes NFS, which is normally not a supported
configuration. By using shared storage, Ops Center can move the VE without copy-
ing its files from the original system to the new one. Instead, it simply performs
any necessary reconfiguration of the systems so that the VE boots or continues
operation on its new system. Shared storage minimizes the service disruption as-
sociated with the migration operation.
If you plan to manage Containers with Ops Center, you should create them
within Ops Center. Although Ops Center will discover existing Containers, it can-
not reconfigure all of the parameters of Containers it discovers.
9.3.9 Oracle EM Ops Center Summary
Ops Center provides many of the features needed in a virtualization management
environment as well as the ability to manage non-virtualized systems. You can
use Ops Center to streamline the process of provisioning and managing systems,
thereby improving business agility and operational flexibility.
9.4 Summary
Only a small percentage of data center computers have been virtualized. But
the trend is clear: More and more workloads are running in VEs each year.
Virtualization offers so many benefits—reduced total cost of ownership (TCO),
reduced power consumption, improved business agility and operational flexibil-
ity—that the trend toward virtualization will undoubtedly be with us for many
years. Virtualization management tools are a critical component of the present
and future of virtualization.
