Getting There & Away
Buses and trains stop at Abisko Östra (main village) and Abisko Turiststation - the start

two daily) and west to Narvik (Norway; Skr185, 1½ hours, one daily).

Riksgränsen
A tiny ski-resort town tucked just inside the border with Norway, 400km north of the Arc-
tic Circle, Riksgränsen is the only place in Sweden where you can ski into Norway and
back during Midsummer. The Riksgränsen ( 0980-400 80; www.riksgransen.nu ; Riksgräns-
vägen 15; d/tr/ste from Skr3290/4690/9900; mid-Feb-Midsummer) resort is hugely popular
with skiers, and its luxurious spa centre, complete with outdoor hot tubs overlooking
Vassijaure lake, is an awesome spot to unwind après-ski. Gear hire costs from Skr350 per
day, and day lift passes start at around Skr400. Exquisite rooms in the intimate Meteoro-
logen Ski Lodge ( www.riksgransen.se ; Riksgränsvägen ; s/d Skr1790/3290) next door are
available year-round and there's a lively bar to tempt revelers, while the STF Hostel Riks-
gränsen ( 0980-430 88; www.riksgransen.se ; Riksgränsvägen 4; d/tr Skr890/1190) , a little
downhill, is a boon for self-caterers.
Trains stop in Riksgränsen on the way from Kiruna to Narvik, as does bus 91.
