In-Depth Information
This rambling complex, across the road from the train/bus station, may look a bit institu-
tional, but it's clean, functional, super-central and a godsend to self-caterers: guests share
several fully equipped kitchens and TV lounges with more long-term local hospital-staff
residents. Reserve in advance to get an access code.
Grand Hotel Lapland
HOTEL
( 0970-77 22 90; www.ghl.se ; Lasarettsgatan 1; s/d from Skr850/1077; )
This modern, business set-oriented hotel opposite the train station was a building site
when we visited but should be fully revamped by the time you do, with a new gym, pool
and steakhouse to complement its airy, comfortable rooms. The ground-level Vassara Pub
serves local specialities such as reindeer, Arctic char and cloudberry tiramisu.
Sofias Kök
SWEDISH
(Storgatan 19; mains from Skr70; 8am-1am Mon-Fri, 10.30am-2am Sat & Sun)
A very local spot for breakfast and Swedish standards such as chunky pea soup. In the
evening, you can nurse a pint with the local barflies.
Nittaya Thai
THAI
( www.nittayathaicatering.se ; Storgatan 21B; mains Skr110-120;
10am-2pm Mon, to 9pm Tue-Fri,
1-9pm Sat & Sun; )
Authentic Thai cuisine in attractive surroundings. The changing weekday lunch buffet
(Skr85) is a crowd-pleaser, but we prefer the curries and stir-fried dishes.
