Several sweet-makers in Gränna have kitchens where you can watch the town's trademark
red-and-white peppermint rock (polkagris) being made. However, this place, directly op-
posite the tourist office, is the best known, and uses an authentic 19th-century recipe that is
refreshingly natural, using solely sugar, water, vinegar and natural peppermint oil.

Take to the skies in a hot-air balloon for a one-hour scenic trip.
Visingsö
Visingsö has a 17th-century church , castle and aromatic herb garden . An extensive net-
work of footpaths and bicycle trails leads through tranquil woods.
The beautiful lakes of Bunn and Ören, and their dark forests, inspired local artist John
Bauer to paint his trolls and magical pools (you can see his work at Jönköpings Läns Mu-
seum ). In summer you can take a boat tour ( 070-791 78 10; www.trolska.se ; adult/child
Skr180/90; tours 12.30pm Sat & Sun Jun, daily Jul-mid-Aug) to the lakes, departing from
Bunnströms badplats, 2.5km from Gränna.

The tourist office arranges private rooms from Skr140 to Skr250 per person per night (plus
Skr100 booking fee). For a choice of food in a great waterside setting, head down to the
harbour (1.5km), where half a dozen restaurants sell everything from Greek, French and
Italian fare to Swedish dishes (most places are open in summer only).
