In-Depth Information
The Hembygdsgård preserves the finest old houses in Norrhamn. The fiskarebostad is an
excellent example of a late-19th-century fisherman's house, complete with typical Swedish
fireplace. The award-winning cafe here is open daily from mid-May to mid-September.
Sleeping & Eating
Supermarkets and a liquor store are on Hamngatan.
Vaxholm/Bogesunds Slottsvandrarhem
HOSTEL
( 08-54 17 50 60; www.bogesundsslottsvandrarhem.se ; Bogesunds Gård; beds from Skr205;
; 681 Bogesunds Gård)
Behind Bogesunds Castle 5.5km southwest of Vaxholm, this pleasant STF hostel has a
pretty, farmlike setting. There's a nice guest kitchen, but you'll need to get groceries in
Vaxholm. Bus service to the hostel is infrequent even in summer; buses depart Vaxholm's
Söderhamnsplan at 11am, 2.12pm, 5.20pm and 6.40pm Monday to Friday, and 11.40am,
2.40pm and 5.40pm on weekends.
Vaxholms Bakery BREAKFAST
(Vaxholmsbagarna; 08-541 318 72; Söderhamnen 6; breakfast buffet Skr70, pastries from Skr20;
6am-8pm Mon-Sat, 8am-6pm Sun)
This comfy bakery-cafe at the edge of the harbour serves an excellent-value breakfast buf-
fet, simple but filling, as well as good coffee, sandwiches and other baked goods. It's an
obvious neighborhood favourite, with steady traffic throughout the morning.
Waxholms Hotell SWEDISH
( 08-541 301 50; www.waxholmshotell.se ; Hamngatan 2; dagens lunch Skr105, mains Skr159-355;
noon-10.30pm, to 9pm Sun)
In a historic building opposite the harbour, grand Waxholms offers fine dining and unbe-
lievable views. Grab a pint in the vaguely British woodsman-esque lobby bar or head up-
stairs to the formal dining room. In summer, stop for lunch on the popular outdoor terrace
at Kabyssen bar-cafe - the fish dishes are highly recommended (Baltic herring is a special-
ity).
