This is a good budget option, 1km southwest of the train station, with helpful staff and the
usual high-standard Danhostel facilities. Its best feature is its location, across the road
from a beach. Dorm beds are available July to September.
Hotel Hirtshals
HOTEL
( 98 94 20 77;

On the main square above the fishing harbour, Hotel Hirtshals has bright, comfortable
rooms with steepled ceilings - try for one with a sea view (at the time of research a new
wing was under construction). It's well-positioned for enjoying the town's restaurants and
is heavily peopled by ferry-going Norwegians.
Hirtshals Fiskehus
SEAFOOD
(

There's a popular
kro
(inn) on the main square, Grønne Plads, but we recommend you take
the steps down to the fishing harbour come mealtime. Here, a fresh-faced fishmonger-cafe
enjoys a prime quayside position and offers a menu of good-value fish dishes
(
fiskefrikadeller,
fish burger, etc) to eat in or takeaway.
Information
The main pedestrian street is Nørregade, southwest of the train station and the ferry ter-
minals. The seaward end of Nørregade opens out into Den Grønne Plads (Green Square),
with stairs leading down to the fishing harbour. There are banks and services along Nør-
regade.
