In a handsome 1796 sandstone building opposite the waterfront, the modest yet endearing
Nexø Museum features intriguing exhibits on Nexø's history, including photos of Nexø be-
fore the bombs of WWII and wartime artefacts such as Nazi and Russian military helmets.

Martin Andersen Nexø's House MUSEUM

May-mid-Oct, also 10am-2pm Sat Jul & Aug)
Snoop around the childhood home of the author of Pelle the Conqueror (the topic that in-
spired the 1988 Oscar-winning film). The house is in the southern part of town and dis-
plays photos of the author, along with some of his letters and other memorabilia.
Balka
BEACH
Although Nexø's central waterfront is industrial, 2km south of town you'll find a popular
seaside area called Balka with a gently curving, white-sand beach.
Sleeping
Because the beaches on the outskirts are much more appealing, few people stay in Nexø
proper.
