OREBY KRO & MØLLE
Down a bucolic country road, 4km northwest of the town of Sakskøbing, lie two of Lol-
land's best-kept secrets. The first is

egant dining rooms, adorned with oil paintings, antique furniture, and the odd mounted
deer, set a suitable scene for soulful, produce-driven Danish fare like butter-fried plaice
with onions, capers, grilled lemon and Danish potatoes, or koldskål(cold buttermilk
soup) with kammerjunkerbiscuit and strawberries.

fjord. Restored under the guidance of Hans Michael Jebsens, a Danish businessman
famed for reviving historic properties, it is now one of Denmark's most romantic hotels,
its elegant, time-warped rooms lavished with valuable art, antiques and textiles. Com-
munal spaces include a beautiful old library, its soaring shelves lined with old books which
can be browsed on velvet sofas. Four rooms have their own bathroom, some have their
own toilet, and all others have a shared bathroom. The most beautiful rooms are those in
the main building, also home to the sublimely spacious Bridal Suite (Dkr1995), which
comes with its own fireplace and private dining room.
Sakskøbing lies 17km west of Nykøbing F and 9km east of Maribo. The town is connec-
ted to Oreby Kro and Oreby Mølle via Orebyvej, which runs off the main street of Brogade.
Although local trains to Sakskøbing run half-hourly to hourly from both Nykøbing F
(Dkr36, 16 minutes) and Maribo (Dkr24, 7 minutes), Oreby Kro and Oreby Mølle are an in-
convenient 4.7km walk from Sakskøbing station, making the use of public transport less
than ideal.
