Using Supplier Content
First, you need to locate the components in a place where Inventor can easily
fi nd them:
1. Create a new folder named C:\Data\Supplier Content .
2. Place the Caster.stp fi le you downloaded earlier in the Supplier
Content folder.
3. Expand the previously downloaded Motor.zip in the Supplier
Content folder, creating a subfolder named Motor that contains the
model fi les.
Now you have the fi les in place. It's important to remember the structure of
your project fi le, and creating a new folder in that structure allows you to keep
things sorted but easily accessible to Inventor.
Let's use the new data to enhance your assembly:
1. Open or activate the fan assembly.
2. Set your view in the Design window by selecting the corner of the
ViewCube that makes Bottom, Right, and Front visible.
3. Start the Place tool.
4. Change the Files of Type value to STEP fi les ( *.stp , *.ste , *.step ).
5. Change the Look In folder to Supplier Content.
6. Pick Caster.stp , and click OK or double-click the fi le to begin placing it.
7. Place one instance of the component into the assembly. See Figure 6.33.
8. In the Position panel, pick the Rotate tool or press the G key on the
keyboard.
Doing so starts a tool that lets you rotate a component in the
assembly regardless of its existing constraints.
9. Pick the caster. A Reticle appears, just as it does with the Orbit tool;
but this affects only the selected part.
10. Click and drag until the caster is in roughly the same position shown
in Figure 6.34.
11. Right-click, and select Done to stop rotating the part.
12. Start the Constrain tool, and place a Mate constraint between the side
of the housing and the top of the caster as shown in Figure 6.35. Use
the Apply button to place it, because you'll need more constraints.
