In-Depth Information
Within what began life as an 18th-century coaching inn are several cosy rooms with poky
angles and listing floors. It's a hyperfriendly place where you can tuck into tasty dishes,
such as its renowned fish soup ('the best in all Norway', a couple of diners assured us), or
the lunchtime herring buffet (Nkr178) from Thursday to Saturday. Always leave room for
a homemade cake.

Despite the irresistible energy of the Solsiden waterfront area, most of the restaurants are
of the chain variety - people tend to come here for the atmosphere rather than the quality
of the food. Søstrene Karlsen is a cut above the rest and is wildly popular as a result.
There's everything from sandwiches to more substantial mains of the usual fish and meat
variety.
