NORWEGIAN
51 84 38 00; Skagen 26; mains Nkr125-329;
11am-1.30am Mon-Sat,
1-10pm Sun)
Our pick of the waterfront restaurant row, this large maritime-themed place serves
everything from confit duck (Nkr310) to roast Atlantic makerel (Nkr290). They really hit
their straps when it comes to hearty, meaty mains, which may not be elegant but use top-
quality produce.
Snackier dishes, such as chorizo tortilla or pork platters, are good value. The atmospher-
ic indoor dining area is ideal when the weather turns; locals swear that the food and ser-
vice is better upstairs.
Emilio's Tapas Bar
SPANISH
lunch & din-
ner daily Jun-Aug, Mon-Sat Sep-May)
This old-school tapas bar with friendly service creates traditional Iberian tapas. The lunch-
time selection of six tapas (Nkr175) is good value. They also have a small selection of
Spanish wines and beers.
Renaa Restauranten
NORWEGIAN
Bakkegata; tasting menus Nkr995; 6pm-late Tue-Sat)
A rambling basement is home to Stavanger's most highly-respected restaurant and seduces
from the get-go with a darkly glamorous, earthy and intimate dining room. A set tasting
menu is responsive to place and the seasons; for most of the year it highlights locally
caught fish and seafood, though in autumn and winter game comes into its own.
