Housed in a 19th-century villa in a peaceful residential area, this four-bed B&B has a
home-away-from-home vibe engendered by the warm and welcoming owner, Sissel
Thompson. Rooms are cosy and comfortable, and traditional Norwegian breakfast, taken
around the downstairs dining table, is generous.
Sissel has a wealth of city tips and can help you plan an itinerary for the surrounding
coast and countryside.
Comfort Hotel Square HOTEL

)
In a wavy wooden building up behind Gamle Stavanger, this option from the Nordic
Choice Comfort line does the hip boutique thing (think exposed concrete walls, creative
lighting and wall-sized photos) with chain convenience, facilities and value. Weekend
rates are particularly good value (under half the weekday price) and the elevated location
is a good one.
Skansen Hotel HOTEL, GUESTHOUSE
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ;
51 93 85 00; www.skansenhotel.no ; Skansegata 7; d Mon-Thu Nkr995, Fri-
Sun Nkr770)
Earmarked to be transformed into a Smarthotel in 2016, this hotel is the only budget op-
tion in the city centre. Rooms are spartan but clean and there's a few extras that please,
such as tea- and coffee-making facilities and complimentary Norwegian sweets. There are
also a beer garden out the back and a locals' favourite watering hole, B.brormann B.bar ,
downstairs.
With no on-site reception, check in is done at the nearby Victoria Hotel.
