SEASIDE SEAFOOD
Cornelius Sjømat Restaurant SEAFOOD
( 56 33 48 80; www.cornelius-restaurant.no ; Måseskjæret 18, Holman; 3-/5-course menus incl
transport Nkr845/995)
An island restaurant just beyond Bergen. Here they smoke their own salmon, harvest
herbs from a kitchen garden and gather fresh seaweed daily. Their saltwater tanks hold
lobsters, crab, crayfish, scallops, mussels, sea urchins and oysters, and this is what ends
up on your platter. Boat transport leaves Bryggen at 6pm nightly - reserve when booking
a table.
Drinking & Nightlife
Coffee is taken seriously in Bergen, with the best cafes using small-batch local roasts, top-
of-the-line technology and gun baristas. Bergen also has a great bar scene and locals are
enthusiastic drinking companions. Most of them favour the places in the centre or southw-
est of Øvre Ole Bulls plass. Big, multi-level nightclubs cluster around here too; they are
easy to spot, often fabulously trashy, and only admit those over 24.
Blom CAFE
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; John Lunds plass 1; 8.30am-5pm Mon-Fri, 11am-5pm Sat & Sun)
This cafe is known for its excellent coffee (this is where off-duty baristas come for a pour-
over) and attracts a fashionable, young crowd. It's a simple, warm place, with sweet ser-
vice, lots of room to pull out your laptop, big sandwiches and more-ish homemade muesli
slices, brownies and fruit crumbles.
Smakverket CAFE
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; KODE 2, Rasmus Meyers allé 3; 11am-5pm)
This moody, perpetually busy, gallery cafe serves good coffee and snacks all day, but also
has a menu of smart lunch dishes and good wine by the glass if you're after something
more substantial.
