PERFORMING ARTS
In late July and early August, Røros stages a nightly three-hour rock opera that recounts
the invasion of Trøndelag by Sweden in 1718, covering the occupation of Røros and the
subsequent death of thousands of soldiers on their frozen trek homewards to Sweden. It's
enacted on the slag heaps in the upper part of town.

The tourist office keeps a list of summer cabins and guesthouses, some within walking dis-
tance of town.

Located in a historic 17th-century building on the main pedestrian thoroughfare, the
Vertshuset Røros is a wonderful choice. The all-wood rooms are generously sized and
have numerous period touches, such as wooden beds with columns - arguably the most
comfortable beds in town.
Do be aware though that during busy periods staff may book you a room at their 'sister'
hotel, the Røros Hotel, a very different kind of place, without telling you.
