In-Depth Information
With sleek-lined Scandinavian design, a gymnasium and a reasonably priced restaurant
(mains around Nkr150), Scandic Hamar could just be Hamar's best address - if you don't
mind the five-minute walk to the town centre.
Quality Inn Astoria BUSINESS HOTEL
( 62 70 70 00; www.choicehotels.no ; Torggata 23; s/d from Nkr745/1045; )
Overlooking the town's main square, this is the most obvious place to rest up for the night.
Although the rooms lack sparkle they are a good size, very comfortable and good value by
Norwegian standards.
Vikingskipet Motell og Vandrerhjem HOTEL, HOSTEL
( 62 52 60 60; www.vikingskipet.no ; Åkersvikavegen 24; dm/s/d Nkr410/745/880, 2-/4-bed apt
Nkr1290/1560; )
This excellent choice is a short way out of town and has a range of accommodation
choices. The hostel wing has tidy dorms, while the simple double rooms have a cabin-style
feel. There are also terrific self-contained apartments.
Kai & Mattis Café INTERNATIONAL
( 62 53 01 45; Torgatta 53; mains Nkr150; 11am-6pm)
If you've ever wondered what an art-deco boudoir looked like (don't pretend you haven't!),
then this place, with its burgundy red walls and over-the-top decorations, will probably
give you a fair idea. Boudoir or not, the meals are good: as well as the sandwich and bur-
ger staples, it does meals such as chicken curry pie.
