Getting There & Away
BUS
Lavprisekspressen buses go to Oslo (Nkr319) and Trondheim (Nkr499) once or twice a
day.
TRAIN
Trains go to Oslo (Nkr268, 1¼ hours, once or twice hourly), Røros (Nkr543, 3¼ hours, up
to four daily), and Trondheim (Nkr780, five hours, four or five daily) via Lillehammer
(Nkr133, 45 minutes).
Elverum

With a name like Elverum, you might expect a whiff of magic, but in reality this is a fairly
nondescript town set amid the vast and lush green timberlands of southern Hedmark
county. Its excellent forestry museum is the main reason to stop here en route to elsewhere.

This museum, 1km south of central Elverum, covers the multifarious uses and enjoyments
of Norwegian forests. It includes a nature information centre, a children's workshop, geo-
logical and meteorological exhibits, wood carvings, an aquarium, nature dioramas with all
manner of stuffed native wildlife (including a mammoth), a pretty little botanical garden
and a 20,000-volume reference library.
If you're going to visit this museum and the Glomdal Museum, then buy the joint ticket
because it works out cheaper by Nkr10!
