Right on the beach, this breezy, beach-house-style spot is the best place to dine for miles
around. Everything is made on the premises, condiments and breads included. Specialities
include gourmet cheese and bacon burgers, fried whitefish with lemon-butter sauce and
steaks such as rib-eye fillet with red-wine jus. Live music plays on the terrace on summer
evenings.

Kaustinen Folk Music Festival MUSIC

Kicking off in early July, this 1968-established folk gathering in the village of Kaustinen,
53km southeast of Kokkola, sees more than 3000 Finnish and international musicians
perform over six days at concerts, bar gigs and endless impromptu jam sessions. The

The biggest attraction in Kokkola (Swedish: Karleby) is its charming Old Town, Neristan,
where the town's sailors and fisherfolk once lived. Until the 1960s fishing boats could sail
up the coffee-coloured river to sell fish in the kauppatori, but you wouldn't believe it to
