At this delightful farm you can pet a reindeer (€7), take one for a 90-minute forest walk
(€40), be led by reindeer aboard a 20-minute winter sleigh ride (€20), or (Rudolph fans:
look away now) dine on reindeer (in dishes from soup to sautéed steak; mains €15 to
€20) or buy it vacuum packed.
Other activities include a 2½-hour foraging walk (€40) for mushrooms or berries (fol-
lowed by pie baking), and ice-fishing (per two hours €20). Cottage accommodation is
available.

Little more than a train station in a field, this rural lakeside hamlet is a peaceful place to
break your journey.
There are two daily trains to Vuonislahti from Joensuu (€12.10, one hour) and Lieksa
(€3.70, 20 minutes).
