This winter sport centre has 12 modest slopes, some for kids, two terrain parks, ski-cross
and cross-country trails, as well as a number of scary ski jumps. There's a good ski area
for children and the resort is popular with families; there's a spa hotel and guesthouse ac-
commodation. It's 4km from the centre of Jyväskylä; catch bus 25.

In mid-July this festival has an international program of concerts, exhibitions, theatre and
dance. It has a strong liberal and radical tradition and is one of Finland's most important
arts festivals.

MOTORSPORT
In early August Jyväskylä hosts what many Finns regard as summer's most important
event, the Finnish leg of the World Rally Championship. It's perhaps the most spectacular
of all the stages, and draws half a million spectators. The event goes for four days, with
