Getting There & Away
AIR
Finnair/FlyBe fly daily between Helsinki and Savonlinna in summer (except late June and
early August), weekdays in winter.
BOAT
Lake boats connect Savonlinna with other towns.
BUS
Savonlinna is not on major bus routes, but there are several express buses a day from Hel-
sinki (€49.90, five to 5½ hours), and buses run regularly from Mikkeli (€24, 1½ hours).
There are also direct services to Joensuu(€26.30, 2¾ hours) and Jyväskylä (€43.90, 3½
hours).
TRAIN
Trains from Helsinki (€65.70, 4¼ hours) and Joensuu (€34, 2¼ hours) both require a
change in Parikkala. The train station is right in the centre of things, near the kauppatori.
Getting Around
Savonlinna airport is 13km northeast; shared taxis ( 0500-250-099; www.jsturvataksit.fi )
meet flights.
There are car-hire agencies at the airport, and Sixt ( GOOGLE MAP ; 020-112-2557;
www.sixt.fi ;Olavinkatu 15) and Hertz ( GOOGLE MAP ; 020-555-2750; www.hertz.fi ;Rantakatu
2) in town. Book well ahead.
