One of two hotels in the town centre, this looks like a dive outside but is a friendly spot
operated out of a bar. Rooms are surprisingly good, with heaps of space, sofas and peace-
ful pastoral views to the lake, plus a long shared balcony divided by privacy screens. You
get breakfast on a tray in the morning, and the pub does no-nonsense pizzas, fish and
steaks until 10pm.

Getting There & Away
Several daily buses connect Ruovesi with Tampere and other places in the region. The SS
Tarjanne,
travelling along the Poet's Way between Tampere and Virrat, stops at Ruovesi.
Helvetinjärvi National Park
Northwest of Ruovesi, this park's main attraction is narrow
Helvetinkolu Gorge
, gouged
out by retreating glaciers at the end of the last Ice Age. The numerous trails include a walk
to
Haukanhieta
, a sandy beach and popular camping spot on Haukkajärvi. There are des-
ignated campsites through the park and a free hut at Helvetinkolu, a couple of kilometres
from the parking area. Signposted 8km west off Route 66 about 9km north of Ruovesi.
