Ruovesi
Peaceful and pretty, Ruovesi's the main town on the Route 66 stretch and has the most ac-
commodation choices. Apart from enjoying the nearby lakeside, there is not a huge
amount to see or do, but it makes a good base for exploring the area's attractions by car.
Sights & Activities
The lakes around Ruovesi are prime fishing country; various fishing guides can take you
out on trips in the area: the website www.zanderland.fi is a good resource.

The local open-air museum has a collection of 18th-century farm buildings including a
picturesque wooden windmill.

This is a great place to stay on an islet north of the town, connected to town by a cause-
way. There's water all around, and fabulous self-contained cottage with sauna, barbecue
and kitchen. The cabins are simpler, but also have basic cooking facilities. It's great for
kids, with a large play area. It discounts heavily when things are quiet.
