This HI-affiliated hostel is signposted 500m off the road between Vargata and Lövö. The
cheapest rooms are in the main building, with slightly larger ones inside a row of little
bungalows. There's a guest kitchen, sauna, bike hire and a driving range in the field out the
front.
Getting There & Away
Vårdö is connected to the island of Prästö by a network of ferries. Bus 4 travels to Vårdö
from Mariehamn (€3.80, one hour), crossing on the short, free car ferry from Prästö.

Saltvik

Vikings sharpened their swords here for centuries: Saltvik's central village, Kvarnbo, is
thought to have been their capital on Åland. Many relics have been unearthed around the
municipality, though few signs of longhouses remain.

Southeast of Kvarnbo some stone outcroppings remain of the Iron Age fortress of
Bor-
gboda
, built in the mid- to late 1st millennium.
Sankta Maria Kyrka

Kvarnbo's red-granite Sankta Maria Kyrka dates from the 13th century and contains a fine
clover-shaped baptismal font and fragmentary frescoes of the period.
Orrdals Klint
MOUNTAIN
At 129m above sea level, Åland's highest 'mountain' Orrdals Klint has two short, well-
marked walking tracks (1km and 2.5km long) leading to the top, where there's a viewing
tower.
