SCANDINAVIAN
menus €34-52, mains €18-38.50; noon-11pm Mon, noon-midnight Tue-Thu, noon-1am Fri & Sat,
3-10pm Sun)
Subtlety is run through with a berserker's broadsword at this over-the-top Viking restaur-
ant, which serves dishes such as roast ox on a plank, 'witch of the north' reindeer or tar ice
cream with cognac. Set menus (or Voyages as they're called here) are filling three-course
samplers. It's not exactly gourmet, but it is great fun.
Drinking
Turku's drinking crowds surge towards the river in summer. Evenings kick off on one of
ones include the upmarket

Panimoravintola Koulu
BREWPUB
In a former school complete with inkwells, desks and a playground-turned-summer beer
garden, this fantastic brewpub only serves its own brews - around five lager-style beers
that change with the seasons, and a couple of interesting ciders flavoured with tart cranber-
ries and blackcurrants. The exception is the whisky collection, with 75 or so to sample.
Upstairs, there's an excellent, kid-friendly restaurant.
Cosmic Comic Café
BAR
4pm-2am Sun)
This fab late-night haunt is a fanboy's dream - comics paper the walls and you can browse
its huge (mostly English-language) collection. Over 70 different kinds of beer and 25
ciders rotate on the eclectic menu. Occasional live music.
