e. POI general importance rating. There are attractions that are of
general interest to anybody, even when they are not the usual type
of POI interesting to the visitor. For example, a monument such as
La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona is considered essential for all users
( tourism ontology)
Taking into account these parameters, a cost is assigned to each
route. The higher the cost of a route, the more interesting it is. The cost
is calculated with a function that takes into account every single point
previously cited:
c route = c average + c intrinsic + c type + c meal + c general
Where:
￿ c route is the cost function.
￿ c average is the average importance of every single POI and is obtained
from the rates given by users.
￿ c intrinsic takes into account the intrinsic importance of the POI for the
user and his or her situation (for example, a night pub weighs more
for a user travelling with friends than for a user travelling with the
family).
￿ c type takes into account if the POI type is a type of POI that the user
prefers (for example, if the user likes churches it gives more weight to
churches that a POI not preferred by the user).
￿ c meal takes into account if the POI offers the kind of food preferred by
the user.
￿ c general takes into account the general importance of the POI, like La
Sagrada Familia in Barcelona.

Spatial Functions
As the research discarded to work with RDF data, it is not possible to use
GeospatialWeb to perform geographic queries. Therefore, the geographic
functions used by spatial reasoning are substituted by geographic functions
designed by our own. Thus, we developed spatial operations such as nearby,
distance and bounding box measurements as an external library.
As described in Section “Expected System”, the expected system also
requires a routing algorithm, because once the personalization algorithm
has selected the best points of interest to visit, it is necessary to guide the
user through one point to another.
