4-4. Configuring Authentication Providers
Problem
You want to configure the method of authentication by your RRAS server.
Solution
Using a Graphical User Interface
1.
Start the Routing and Remote Access Services administrative console from the
Administrative Tools folder in the Start menu, or directly from %systemroot%\system32\
rrasmgmt.msc .
2.
Right-click the name of the RRAS server that you want to manage in the left pane, and
select Properties.
3.
Select the Security tab.
4.
Click the arrow in the Authentication Provider drop-down list and select whether you
want to use RADIUS Authentication or Windows Authentication.
5.
If you selected to use RADIUS Authentication, configure the settings to connect to the
RADIUS server as follows:
a.
Click the Configure button next to the Authentication Provider drop-down list.
b.
Click the Add button to select your RADIUS server.
c.
Type your RADIUS server name in the Server Name field.
d.
If your RADIUS server uses a secret phrase, click the Secret button next to the corre-
sponding field and enter the phrase. Click OK when complete.
Set the idle timeout value, specified in seconds. The default value is 5 .

Set the initial score (priority) for your RADIUS server. The default value is 30 .

Set the port on which your RADIUS server listens for authentication requests.
The default port is 1812 .
h.
Check the check box if you want to always use the message authenticator.
i.
Click OK when complete.
j.
Repeat steps b through i for any additional RADIUS servers on your network.
6.
Click the Authentication Methods button to configure the various authentication
protocols.
