In-Depth Information
Now, when we added our Z Depth VFB channel to our rendered output back in V-
Ray, you may have wondered why we didn't fine-tune the depth settings for the shot
using the controls provided. Well, while we could most certainly have gone ahead
and done that, but due to the fact that we were rendering out to floating point, this
seemed like a redundant step, as again we can easily edit our depth settings in post.
To do that, let's first of all double-click on the
ZDepth_Control
pre-comp in the lay-
er stack to open it up and then perform the following steps:
1. Over in the
Effects & Presets
panel, type
invert
and then drop the
32-bit
Invert
effect that appears in the results area onto the
Materi-
als_Final.ZDepth.exr
image (this gives us a white to medium-grey image as
opposed to the medium-grey to white that we had).
2. Next, we need to shift the area of focus around a little, so again in the
Effects
& Presets
panel, let's type out
levels
and then drop the 32-bit
Levels
effect
onto the
Materials_Final.ZDepth
image as well.
