In-Depth Information
A quick render shows that although the change is very subtle, it does make the
reflections look a little more natural. As what we have here seems to be working
fairly well for the moment, and will of course clean up nicely as we improve image
sampling quality in a later chapter, let's move on to creating a material for the frames
and handles of the door system.
Giving the doors an aluminum look
Because what we are looking to create here is something along the lines of an alu-
minum / brushed metal material, we should be able to move along quite quickly as
most of the material properties that we will need to make use of are ones that we are
by now already familiar with.
To create the material we want for the doors, let's perform the following steps:
1. Right-click on the Scene Materials list header and choose Standard from
the Create Material flyout.
2. We want to rename the new material and call it Doors_Blurred_Metal .
3. Using the Select tool while holding down the Ctrl key, select the outer frame,
both door frames, and the interior handle group (again, we may need to use
the Orbit and Zoom tools to situate our view more appropriately for these op-
erations).
4. Next, right-click on the Doors_Blurred_Meta l material and use the Apply
Material to Selection command.
