An org chart provides an ideal, intuitive framework for portraying
characteristics of an organization. However, when those characteristics are
summative and a more precise reading of proportional contribution is
desired, a sunburst chart may be an appropriate choice.
In Figure 2-5 , the size of staff for a manager is the sum of the size of staff
foreachofthemanager'sdirectreports.Eachhigher-levelbubblerepresents
the sum size of bubbles below. This gives an impression of department size,
which is, in most cases, a sufficient level of detail. When the goal is to
analyze department performance, however, more precision may be desired.
