Exercise 9-1 (Project)
Experimenting with 3-D
1. Preliminaries: Start ArcCatalog. Let's check the defaults: Under Customize > ArcCatalog
Options > General, make sure Hide File Extensions is unchecked. Click OK. Also be sure that
ToolTips is turned on: Customize > Toolbars > Customize > Options and show tooltips on
toolbars and on menus. Click Close. Under Customize > Extensions, make sure a check is in
the box labeled 3D Analyst. Click Close.
2. More Preliminaries: Under Customize > Toolbars, make sure 3D View Tools is turned on.
Locate the toolbar and drag it into the display window (right pane). In your Fast Facts File, using
ToolTips, list the names of the buttons on the 3D View Tools toolbar.
Navigate,
Zoom In/Out,
and so on.
Done? Yes ___. No ___.
Double-click the title bar of 3D View Tools to put it back among the other toolbars.
3. Final Preliminaries: In ___IGIS-Arc_ YourInitials make a folder named 3-D_Data. For use later,
make a File Geodatabase named 3-D.gdb
within the 3-D_Data folder. Make a folder connection to 3-D_Data. From [___] IGIS-Arc\River, use
ArcCatalog to copy the following data sets into the folder 3-D_Data.

cole_tin
cole_DRG.TIF
COLE_DOQ64.JPG
ArcScene
4. Start ArcScene, with a Blank map, from ArcCatalog, using one of the buttons you identified
previously. Make ArcScene full screen. Locate the ArcScene Tools toolbar, and move it onto the
display area. List the buttons on the Tools toolbar in your Fast Facts File.
