Many implementers are only considering a few parts and not all the available capa-
bilities that the standard defines. To implement the entire standard would be a major chal-
lenge for any company.

MPEG-4 Part 2 Profiles and Levels
Note that we are only discussing the visual profiles. MPEG-4 also supports other pro-
files for audio, graphics, and scene graphs. These are beyond the scope of our discus-
sions on video compression. They will be of interest to content producers who are
aggregating compressed video with other asset types to create interactive multimedia
presentations.

These profiles describe video that has been filmed or is based on what we normally think
of as a frame-based video session.
