VideoLAN's VLC Player
This is a remarkably popular player because it is available as a totally open-source kit,
which you can modify yourself if you wish.
Figure 25-4 shows what the player looks like on the Windows platform. Note the
unusual placement of the controls at the top of the screen.
The player looks somewhat different on Mac OS. In this case (Figure 25-5) the con-
troller is displayed in a separate window like the DVD player that ships with Mac OS. This
is a nicer way to implement the controller.
The following operating system platforms are supported by downloadable pre-built
binaries, which you can install and run straightaway:
Windows
Mac OS X
BeOS
Debian GNU/Linux
Mandrake Linux
Fedora Core
