How to do it…

The following steps are to be followed to implement management data warehouse
(MDW) features by enabling data collector store performance information to a data
warehouse database:

1. On the host where MDW is stored using SSMS on Object Explorer, expand the server

instance and expand the Management node for that server.

2. Right-click on Data Collection, click Configure Management Data Warehouse to

open the Configure MDW wizard, and click Next to continue.

3. On the Select configuration task screen, choose Create or upgrade a management

data warehouse radio button.

4. We will choose a new database to store MDW data by clicking on the New button on

the Configure Management Data Warehouse Storage screen.

5. This will open the standard screen to create the New Database screen. For the

recipe, we choose 1445_MDW as the name, leave all other selections as default, and
click OK to continue.
