Eating
Walt'z Fish Shak SEAFOOD
( 727-395-0732; www.waltzfishshak.com ; 224 Boardwalk Pl E, Madeira Beach; mains $4-12;
5-9pm Tue-Fri, noon-3pm Sun)
The MO at Walter Gerbase's fish shack is simple: the day's domestic-only catch (often fea-
turing grouper, cobia and amberjack) is chalked on the board; you choose one grilled, fried
or blackened and served with coleslaw, salad or raw veg. When they run out, that's it for
the night. Get there early to grab a table and the best of the day's selection.
Sandbar Bill's BURGERS
( 727-360-5596; 4350 Gulf Blvd, St Pete Beach; mains $5-10; 11am-late)
Located right on the beach, the Bon-Aire Resort's tiki bar is a local favorite for chargrilled,
hand-pattied burgers and rib-eye sandwiches. Not hungry? Jackie will keep you supplied
with Rum Runners as the fiery Florida sun kisses the horizon. Watch out for marauding
seagulls; they will take you down for a bite of that juicy burger.
La Casa del Pane DELI, BAKERY
( 727-367-8322; 7110 Gulf Blvd, St Pete Beach; items $3-6; 8am-5pm Tue-Sat)
With proprietors hailing from Altamura, the bread capital of Italy, it's hardly surprising
that this local deli dishes up the best croissants, focaccia and pizza on the beach. The cof-
fee's the real deal, too.
Paradise Grille SEAFOOD
( 727-367-1495; 900 Gulf Way, Passe-a-Grille; items $6-10; 8am-10pm)
With a deck right over the beach, cold beer and the best pound of shrimp on the beach, this
is indeed a little slice of paradise. It also does a mean breakfast, and there's a craft market
and live music on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
