In-Depth Information
Tarks of Dania Beach SEAFOOD
( 954-925-8275; www.tarks.com ; 1317 S Federal Hwy, Dania Beach; mains $2-9)
This jaunty clam stand has been going strong since 1966 and is now a local landmark.
Most of the tiny interior is taken up with the cooking counter, where they broil, fry and
steam daily specials. These usually include a combination of steamed, fried and raw clams
alongside shrimp, oysters, snow crab and spicy chicken wings. It can get crazy busy, but
food usually vanishes so fast you won't be waiting long.
Jaxson's Ice Cream Parlor ICE CREAM
( www.jaxsonsicecream.com ; 128 S Federal Hwy, Dania; ice cream from $4;
11:30am-11pm Sun-Thu,
to midnight Fri & Sat; )
Established in 1956, this place has 80-plus flavors of homemade ice cream.
Taco Beach Shack MEXICAN
( www.tacobeachshack.com ; 334 Arizona St, Hollywood; tacos $4-10;
11:30am-10pm Mon-Thu, to
midnight Fri & Sat)
Hipsters and hangers-on lounge around on wicker chaises at this open-air taqueria. The
menu (written on a surfboard) has a very of-the-moment mix of ethnic flavors - try the
Korean short rib and kimchi tacos. You'll feel cooler just by eating one.
Le Comptoir FRENCH
( 786-718-9441; www.lecomptoir.menubaron.com ; 1902 Harrison St; mains $17.50-26; 5-10pm)
It's worth making the trip Downtown for this classic bistro. You'll dine on bowls heaped
high with mussels stewed in white wine and Provençal sauces, and dusted with vibrant
green parsley. Other signature French dishes include duck with an orange glaze, escargot
bathed in garlic and succulent peppered steak.
