In-Depth Information
Falling-water windows, clean metallic spaces and curving copper facades complement one
of the nicest views of the city. The Scandi-tastic decor works in harmony with a menu that
marries the Mediterranean to Asia; try the oysters wrapped in beef and hamachi carpaccio.
NORTH BISCAYNE BOULEVARD
As North Biscayne Blvd continues to gentrify, better and better restaurants are opening
up. Here are some winners from this foodie find:
Michy's ( GOOGLE MAP ; 305-759-2001; http://michysmiami.com ; 6927 Biscayne Blvd; meals
$29-38; 6-10:30pm Tue-Thu, to 11pm Fri & Sat, to 10pm Sun; ) Blue-and-white pop decor.
Organic, locally sourced ingredients. A stylish, fantastical bar where Alice could drink be-
fore painting Wonderland red. Welcome to Michelle 'Michy' Bernstein's culinary lovechild
- one of the brightest stars in Miami's culinary constellation. The emphasis is on good
food and fun. The 'half plates' concept lets you halve an order and mix up delicious gast-
ronomic fare, such as foie gras on corn cakes, chicken pot pie with wild mushrooms,
white almond gazpacho, and blue-cheese croquettes.
Honey Tree ( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 305-756-1696; 5138 Biscayne Blvd; mains under $10;
8am-8pm Mon-Thu, to 7pm Fri, 9am-6pm Sat; ) The Honey Tree is a health-food store that
happens to serve excellent juices, smoothies and what many consider to be Miami's best
vegan lunch. What's on offer varies day by day, but rest assured it will be cheap (it's
priced by weight) and delicious. Lunch is usually served from noon to 2pm, but keep in
mind that food often runs out due to high demand.
Jimmy's East Side Diner ( GOOGLE MAP ; 305-754-3692; 7201 Biscayne Blvd; mains $5-13;
6:30am-4pm) Come to Jimmy's, a classic greasy spoon (that happens to be very gay
friendly; note the rainbow flag out front), for big cheap breakfasts of omelets, French
toast or pancakes, and turkey clubs and burgers later in the day.
Wynwood, Design District & Little Haiti
Chef Creole HAITIAN
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 305-754-2223; 200 NW 54th St; mains $7-20; 11am-11pm Mon-Sat)
When you need Caribbean food on the cheap, head to the edge of Little Haiti and this ex-
cellent takeout shack. Order up fried conch, oxtail or fish, ladle rice and beans on the side,
and you'll be full for a week. Enjoy the food on nearby picnic benches while Haitian music
blasts out of tinny speakers - as island an experience as they come.
