corner of a quiet square, this tiny café and terrassa is popular with parents who come to

jam for early birds, while later in the day sandwiches, tapas and assorted platos del día
are on offer - hummus and bread, vegetable quiche, couscous or pasta, for example. Daily
9am-midnight; closed two weeks Dec/Jan.
Mendizábal c/de la Junta de Comerç 2, no phone; Liceu; map . Don't look for a café be-
cause there isn't one. Instead, this cheery stand-up counter across from the Hospital de la
Santa Creu dispenses juices, shakes, beer and sandwiches to passing punters. The lucky ones
grab a table over the road in the shady little square. Daily 10am-midnight, June-Sept until
1am.
