their surfaces are approximately parallel to each other. Adjacent segments do not
have parallel surfaces, giving them prismatic power. Compare these to the prism
segments furthest from the lens center. Here, the sides of the segments form larger
angles with each other, giving them more prism power than those closer to the
center.
