Figure 8-6. The Inspector's Position tab gives you the “address” of the selected layout object. This
one displays measurements in points, but if you prefer to work in centimeters or inches, just click
any of the “pt” labels to the right of the fields. FileMaker will cycle among the three units of meas-
urement with each click.
Guides
Back in the olden days, FileMaker had a thing called the T-Square. It was a sad little pseudo-
guide of such limited value that many developers simply ignored it. FileMaker 13 offers
modern guides like those found in graphics and print layout software. For the uninitiated, a
guide is a horizontal or vertical line that appears only in Layout mode and helps you partition
the space and place objects neatly. Using the sample file People.fmp12 , you'll use guides to
create a more visually appealing layout.
1. Open People.fmp12 , switch to the Using Guides layout and choose View Layout
Mode .
2. If the Inspector isn't open, choose View Inspector .
3. Click the Inspector's Position tab. If the unit of measurement is “in” or “cm,”
click it until it changes to “pt.”
