Database Reference
In-Depth Information
Figure 7-10. The Layout Setup dialog box has countless under-the-hood options for your
layout. You can configure which views should be allowed for the layout, how big the print
margins are, and which menus appear in the menu bar. And, of course, you can type to
change the layout's name.
3. In the Layout Name box, type a more descriptive name, say, People Detail .
This name more clearly indicates that this layout shows full details about a person.
4. Click OK and then, in the Layout bar, click Exit Layout .
When you click Exit Layout, FileMaker asks if you want to save the change you've
made to the layout.
5. Click Save .
Now the Layout pop-up menu shows the new layout name.
Setting Layout View
Switch to Browse mode to admire your handiwork. When you create a layout, you get com-
plete freedom to make the layout look just the way you want. But one tradeoff is that you
have to remember to tell the layout which view it's supposed to be in. Right now there's
nothing stopping you (or anybody using your database) from switching this layout to List
view, or Table view, at some point in the future. If you don't want anyone to see the database
that way, then you can tell FileMaker you want this layout to be seen only in Form view:
