Database Reference
In-Depth Information
Statistics . This pane shows information about your server and clients as users share data.
The data shown here give you (or FileMaker's tech support staff) information about how
much load your server encounters and how it's performing. You can use this data to find
out where performance bottlenecks are and get information for making adjustments.
Log Viewer . You tell FileMaker Server what to log in the Database Server pane on the
Logging tab, but you'll view the logs on this panel. Click the Modules button to open a
window that lets you choose logs from Server Events, Server Access, and Web Publish-
ing Core. Set start and end dates to filter the log's events to a specific time period.
General Settings . This panel includes all the configuration options you set when you set
up your server, plus some additional options. You can rename your server (in the Server
Information tab), tell the server to email you important information periodically (in the
Email Notifications tab), change the administrator password (in the Admin Console tab),
decide if the server should start automatically when the computer boots (in the Auto Start
tab), enable FileMaker files to accept Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) and Java
Database Connectivity (JDBC) queries (in the ODBC/JBBC tab), and log warning when
you reach 80 percent of the connections limit (in the Connections tab). The Administrat-
or Groups tab lets you delegate some administrative tasks. If your server hosts databases
for the Sharks and the Jets, you can set up an Administrator Group for each of them so
that each can manage their own databases without getting administrative access to the
other's.
Database Server . Shows configuration options specific to the database server portion of
FileMaker Server ( Figure 19-10 ). You can set limits on the number of connections the
server allows or on the number of database files to host. You can tell the server what kind
of security accounts to use and specify folders for storing additional databases and
backup files. You also get to tell FMS how often to collect data and how much of that
data to save in a log file. You can enable server plug-ins and set directory service inform-
ation to help FileMaker Pro clients find the server on a network.
