Islands.

GETTING AROUND
By taxi Metered taxis by Express ( 0370 635968, expressgroup.co.id ) and Blue Bird (
0370 627000, bluebirdgroup.com ) are plentiful in Senggigi and can be flagged down or
booked ahead; the 5km ride from Mangsit to central Senggigi should be under Rp20,000.
By car or motorbike Rental cars and motorbikes are widely available.
On a tour All agencies offer tours round Lombok - nearly everywhere on the island is ac-
cessible on a day-trip - but it's more fun to design your own by hiring a car and driver.
A highly recommended local driver/guide is Made Minggir ( 0819 9988 8910,
made-
travel10@yahoo.com ); expect to pay Rp450,000/day.
ACTIVITIES
Cycling Lombok Way Out ( 0370 679 9959, lombok-wayout.com ) and Rinjani Trekking
Club ( 0370 693202, info2lombok.com ) organize various Lombok cycle day-trips, tak-
ing in villages, beaches, forests and rice fields, from $30-75/person for 1-5hr.
Diving and snorkelling There's no diving near Senggigi so all dive centres ship their clients
to the Gili Islands or Sekotong Bay for the day (1-2hr away); a two-dive package costs $83.
Reputable local dive centres include Blue Marlin ( bluemarlindive.com ) at Holiday Re-
sort Lombok ( 0370 693719) on Mangsit Beach and Dream Divers, in central Senggigi (Jl
Raya Senggigi 0370 693738, dreamdivers.com ). If you're on Lombok primarily for the
diving, however, it's cheaper and more time-efficient to base yourself on the Gilis or in Seko-
tong Bay instead. Most dive centres will take accompanying snorkellers to Gili Trawangan
or Gili Air for about $20 ($10 for under-10s) and may provide a dedicated snorkelling guide
on request.
