The Museum Negeri Nusa Tenggara Barat focuses on the history, geology and culture of
Lombok and Sumbawa and is worth a brief visit, even if English-language information is
scant. Highlights include a scale model of Rinjani, collections of local textiles and sacred kris
(daggers) and displays about the daily lives of Lombok's Sasak and Balinese people.
Pura Meru
Jl Selaparang, Cakranegara • Daily 7am-5pm • Donation; sarong and scarf available
Pura Meru , also known as Pura Mayura, is the largest Balinese temple on Lombok. It was
built in 1720, during the period when the Balinese ruled west Lombok, in an attempt to unite
the various Hindu factions on Lombok. The candi bentar (split gate) displaying scenes from
the Ramayana is well worth lingering over.
